Where To Eat in Bangor

Bagels from Reubens

Bangor has stepped up its food game in recent years, especially in the brunch and lunch department. With younger folks appearing to prefer dining out more than clubbing these days, this is a win for the High Street.
Here are some of my favourites. The guide will be updated on a regular basis to include offers and discounts.

Domu

Domu is the quintessential homely cafe. Owners Dale and Svet have created a wholesome vegetarian Eastern European menu that includes Borscht (Ukrainian stew), Forest Mushrooms with rice, and flavoursome cake (some of the best in Bangor, in my opinion). The food is freshly cooked in small batches to prevent waste. Domu are also included in my cheap eats in North Wales guide.

Torna a Surriento

Now located near Garth Pier, Torna a Surriento offers an authentic Italian menu, suitable for all dietary requirements. Vegans will be happy to know that there are extensive plant-based options on the menu.

Blue Sky Cafe & Taproom

Smashed avodaco on sourdough toast

Tucked behind the old ‘G Williams & Son’ butchers is the Blue Sky Cafe & Taproom - a staple on Bangor High Street. Blue Sky offers a wonderfully colourful breakfast, brunch and lunch menu complimented by a super relaxing atmosphere, featuring log-burner and plush furnishings! The downstairs taproom (AKA Blue Sky Bach) offers a fantastic selection of locally crafted beers. Blue Sky do accommodate walk-ins, but as one of Bangor’s most popular venues booking is advised. Follow their social media to keep informed on any pop-up events. We particularly recommend the Ramen nights!

Reubens Coffee House

Reuben’s Cafe and Coffee House have opened their second premises on College Road, and are offering fresh bagels, sandwiches, pastries and coffees. The bakes come fully loaded - I highly recommend the Reuben sandwich!

You can also find Reubens over in Holyhead, where they offer hot breakfasts alongside lunches.

This is a welcome addition to the area! With the Coffee House situated next door to Jones Pizza, Upper Bangor is becoming a little foodie corner.

Yugen Coffee House

Whenever I'm in town, I always make sure to order a flat white from Yugen. Owner Gavin’s passion for coffee is obvious, and I’m not surprised that it’s won a handful of good coffee awads. Yugen offers a lovely selection of light bites too.

Anka Turkish Bistro & Cafe

Anka Turkish Bistro & Cafe is currently a bit of a hidden gem, found tucked away opposite Lidl. A wonderful new spot in Bangor that offers Turkish influenced bakes, hot drinks and now serving Halal breakfasts and lunches.

Jones Pizza

Rich and Char from Caernarfon are known for their Neapolitan Pizza food truck, and have now taken over 42 Holyhead Road (which many will know as Caffi Clena or Options).

They serve some of the best pizza in North Wales, so it’s fantastic to have a sit down area to shield from this beautiful North Wales weather!

Miracle Cafe

Miracle Cafe is one of the newest additons to the High Street. The cafe offers one of the best brunch menus in Bangor, and it won't break the bank: These American-style pancakes served with berries & honey Greek yoghurt cost just £6.50!

Mircale are are currently offering a 10% discount for students.

Bwyd Da

Pasta ragu lunch from Bwyd Da, Bangor

Slow cooked Ragu - one of the tastiest pasta dishes I’ve had

Bwyd Da is a community led cafe that offers a variety of FANTASTIC homemade food. Yes, FANTASTIC. The breakfast and lunch menu is not only flavoursome, but caters for every dietary requirement. And the cakes... Well, they are on par with the Domu range.

Clio Lounge

Opposite Bwyd Da is Clio Lounge, and is part of ‘The Lounges’ chain opearating througout the UK. This contemporary and spacious restaurant has something for the whole family, and offers a great cocktail menu.

Clio is also dog friendly. Read about more dog friendly places to eat in North Wales here.

Kyffin Cafe

For a tranquil location with an impressive vegetarian and vegan offering, head to Kyffin Café Deli. It’s one of my go-to places to switch off from the outside world.

Y Llechan - The Slate

Sunday roast at The Slate, Bangor

Situated in Tal‑Y‑Bont is the delightful Y Llechan - The Slate restaurant. Based on your feedback, the Sunday roast offering is one of the best in the area. It would be rude of me not to try it out soon…

Wood Fired Shack

If you're looking for a quick evening meal in a trendy venue, I highly recommend Wood Fired Shack. The pizza options are always extensive, and the cocktails on offer are a treat. The friendly atmosphere make this a great first stop before an evening out and about in Bangor.

Voltaire, Vegan Restaurant

Voltaire are a fast food style vegan restaurant that offer a great selection of plant-based goods. They announced in August that they are re-opening their restaurant after a short hiatus, and have added some delicious sounding updates to their menu (Check out ‘The Beast’ and ‘The Naughty Ninja’ burger!). Check out their Facebook for the most up to date information.

Ty Golchi

Ty Golchi is a family favourite, situated just on the outskirts of Bangor (near Tesco). I recommend one of their Tapas offerings, mainly due to the sheer volume of fresh fruit and salad!

As always, if you have any more recommendations or are a business that wants to be included on my website, drop me an email!
